Cherrie Rene Walker, 64, passed away on April 26, 2025. Born at home on February 12, 1961, to Willie Mae Walker and James Hyde Sr. (both of whom preceded her in death), Cherrie was a proud native of East St. Louis, Illinois.
She began her education at A.M. Jackson Elementary, continued through Martin Luther King Jr. Junior High, and graduated from East St. Louis Senior High School, where she shined as an all-star track athlete—early proof of the resilience, strength, and determination that would come to define her life. She later pursued higher education at the University of Kansas, further nurturing her love of learning and growth before eventually making Washington State her home.
Cherrie married into the military and lived for a time in Germany, a place she once said made her feel the most free. She embraced every new culture with curiosity and warmth, and her love of travel blossomed into a lifelong passion. From the streets of Europe to cities across the U.S. and the open seas of cruise ships shared with her daughter, Cherrie believed—and taught her children—that the greatest wealth lies not in possessions, but in the experiences we share and the memories we create.
Cherrie was known for her outspoken spirit and sense of humor, living her life unapologetically with a loving heart and boundless resilience. She lived a life of generosity and devotion, dedicating herself to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant and later earning her Adult Home Administrator certification. Whether she was offering a helping hand, an open heart, or a kitchen full of warmth, Cherrie made everyone around her feel seen, loved, and supported.
Her love for cooking—especially baking—led her to start a small but thriving cheesecake business, one that brought joy to coworkers, hospital staff, and friends alike. Nothing lit her up more than mastering a new recipe and watching it bring smiles to the faces of others.
Cherrie faced life’s challenges with unwavering strength and grace. Her laughter, wisdom, and fierce love for her family left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her loving children: Hiram Fuller, Theodore Fuller III, and Tyhrona Townsel; her cherished grandchildren, Taliah and Aria Fuller, Malayiah Diaz; and her devoted brothers, James Hyde, Clint Hyde, and Rickie McGee. She also leaves behind a host of extended family, cousins, and dear friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Cherrie’s legacy lives on in every life she touched—with warmth, courage, adventure, and an abundance of love. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
