For Love Is As Strong As Death Songs of Solomon 8:6 (NLT)

Paula Rudene Taylor, our precious Paula, the beloved daughter of Marion I. Taylor II and Geraldine Rogers Taylor, both now at rest, was born in Comanche County, Lawton, Oklahoma. She attended Lawton public schools until her family’s relocation in August of 1971, after which she continued her education in Tacoma public schools. From an early age, Paula was introduced to Christ and faithfully served the Lord. She regularly attended Grant Chapel A.M.E., the family’s home church, where our dear grandparents—now resting in the Lord—and our loving mother instilled in us the importance of seeking and trusting God’s guidance. As they taught us, we have always held onto the words of Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Paula was a fiercely loving and protective mother and grandmother. She adored her three children, Derrick D. Taylor, Latesha (now deceased), and Shannon R. Taylor, who were the lights of her life. But her heart truly blossomed when she spoke of her grandchildren—O’Shun, Weather, Derrick U’Riah, Amillian, Amira, Toni, and Dae’Jon—who brought her endless joy. Paula’s love and kindness knew no bounds, as she touched the lives of all who crossed her path. Her feisty spirit was a testament to her unwavering love for her family and all those she held dear. Paula found great pride in her culinary talents. She loved preparing meals for her family and friends, and when she cooked, she poured her heart into every dish. Barbecuing in the yard or at the park, she made the most of every moment, cooking with joy and flair. She was an exceptional cook, and those moments spent around the table will always be cherished. Throughout her life, Paula worked tirelessly in various roles, from caregiving to janitorial services. She found fulfillment in caring for others, just as she did when nurturing her family. Even after retiring due to health reasons, Paula returned to church, attending Living Word Christian Church whenever she could, always praising the Lord and feeling blessed to be back
in His house. Her faith never wavered, and she often spoke of the joy she found in reconnecting with the Lord. Though we will deeply miss Paula’s earthly presence, we will forever hold close to the sweet memories of her love and laughter. She leaves behind her children, Derrick, and Shannon, and her beloved partner, Ralph Page, as well as her grandchildren, her brothers Thomas, Bart (and wife Sue), and Marion, her sisters Elaine (and husband Ron), Joyce, Angela, and her cherished aunt Alice Smith of Lawton, OK. Paula also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins,
and friends who adored her.

When Paula’s time on Earth came to an end, surrounded by family, she was unafraid. There were no tears, only a peaceful smile that reflected the joy of knowing she would soon be reunited with her heavenly loved ones. As she shared stories of our dear ones who had gone before, it was as if they were all in the room with her, embracing her in her final moments. With faith in her heart and love all around her, Paula was joyfully reunited with her beloved daughter, Latesha Shavon Pettaway. 2 Corinthians 5:8: “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” Paula’s legacy of love, strength, and faith will live on in all of us. May we carry her spirit of love, protection, and devotion as we continue to trust in the Lord, just as she did.
