Woodrow Jones Jr.
July 26, 1942 – January 23, 2022
Tacoma, Washington – Woodrow E. (Woody) Jones grew up in the Hilltop area and graduated from Stadium, PLU and City University. His professional career was with the City of Tacoma in both General Government and Tacoma Public Utilities. After retirement, he was appointed to the Public Utilities Board of Directors for ten years. He was a member of Tacoma Sunrise Rotary and supported the community by participating in many organizations as member and leader. His lifelong commitments were to inclusion, communication, and the education of minority students. Woody and his wife traveled extensively, taking three cruises and six trips abroad. He loved football, Motown, lunching at the Spar, and large family gatherings.
Woody is predeceased by his parents, Woodrow Sr and Vivian Jones, and his brother Michael. He is survived by his wife Virginia Ferguson, his children Victoria Collins (Dewayne), Erika Sharp (Edward), and Christopher Jones, stepchildren Roberta Raye and Ryan Ingram, his sister Jeane Parker, numerous grandchildren, and a large extended family.
A Celebration for Woody will be held Friday, February 4 at 11 AM at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1211 So I St, Tacoma (observing COVID protocols), and live-streamed on the Church’s Facebook page.
