Ms. Lois Evelyn (Fletcher) McCane
Lois McCane, 81 of Tacoma Washington closed her eyes for the final time on January 22, 2021 at Manorcare Healthcare Services in Tacoma, Washington, after a long illness. Affectionally known to many as “Ms. Lois” she was born to the late John and Pearl Fletcher, on July 25, 1939, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She was a proud “Cowboy Hat” wearing native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was the last living sibling of the 5 children. Lois graduated from Douglass High School in 1957 where she also reigned as the football teams “Queen Ms. Trojan” during that year. In addition, she was the leader of Douglass drill team during 1956 and 1957. While attending Douglass she met her high school sweetheart Alton Jerome McCane Sr. They married after high school and resided in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She worked at Western Electric as a lead factory worker in Oklahoma City for 10 years prior, to rejoining her union with Alton McCane Sr. in a remarriage ceremony, once relocating with him to Tacoma, Washington in July 1972. She then established her career at Rainier Brewery for many years as a lead Secretary, after earning her diploma as a clerk typist, while attending Bates Vocational-Technical Institute on September 14, 1977. She also worked with Heidelberg Brewery as lead secretary, and in later years as a Caregiver for the State of Washington before finally retiring.  Lois was a wonderful cook; many family and friends enjoyed her great meals, especially one of her favorites BBQ ribs. She also enjoyed shopping on QVC and HSN. She lived a good full life. Milestone’s, she enjoyed in her last living years were voting for the 44th first Black President of the United States “Barrack Obama” both terms in 2009 & 2013, as well as the first Black Vice-President “Kamala Harris in November 2020. She also lived to experience the world’s largest Pandemic “The Coronavirus” in February 2020. She caught “Coronavirus” on January 6, 2021 and lived through her 14-day quarantine, without experiencing any “major symptoms”. Ms. Lois was preceded in death by her ex-husband Alton Jerome McCane Sr. on June 11, 2017, her late parents, John, and Pearl Fletcher, three brothers’: Johnnie B. Fletcher (Marie); Casper (Ted) Fletcher (Mae Ella), and Henry (Ted) Fletcher, and only older sister Barbara Jean (Fletcher) Gissandaner (Lonnell). Her younger son: Mark McCane passed away, as an infant at the tender age of 4 months old in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her oldest son: Alton Jerome McCane Jr. passed away in June 2013 in (Los Angeles, California).
Ms. Lois leaves to cherish and celebrate her memory, her only daughter: Rhonda Lynn McCane Ryan (Ronnie Jo Sr. deceased) of Tacoma, Washington, her youngest son: Roger Allen McCane Sr. and her loving devoted daughter-in-law (Debbie Duggins McCane) of Kent, Washington. She leaves to cherish her memory, 8 grandsons: Roger A. McCane Jr. of Tacoma, Washington, Ronnie Jo Ryan Jr. of Tacoma, Washington, Alton J. McCane III of Wareham, Massachusetts, Titus McCane Sr. (Laina), of North Carolina, Kory Keys McCane (Pippy) of Tacoma, Washington, Shaun Patton, of Los Angeles, California, Andre’ Keys McCane of Tacoma, Washington, and Million Allen McCane of Kent, Washington, and 4 granddaughters: Richelle Ryan Bell (Quincy)
of Hutto, Texas, Shayla Patton of Puyallup, Washington, Renita Anetria McCane, of Tacoma, Washington, and Rog’zani Lovelyn McCane of Kent, Washington, as well as 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, Sister in law Auta Mae Fletcher, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. In addition to her Fabulous 5 – Sister Circle Classmates: Ms. Patty Brown, Ms. Willa Johnson, Ms. Shirley Garner, Ms. Freddie Clark, and Ms. Loretta Osborne all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Viewing ceremony will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 6
p.m. at Scott Funeral Home – 1215 M.L.K. Jr. Way – Tacoma,
Washington, 98405. The burial will take place Friday February 12, 2021 at 11
a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, WA
