Denton (Dennie) Ulric Stephens was born on May 17, 1944 in Old Harbor Bay, St Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies, to Florence Myton and Carl Stephens. He was a handsome boy who laughed a lot. He grew up to be tall, athletic and handsome (can’t leave that word out). In his younger years, Dennie fell in love with soccer, track and field. He was good at both. Dennie had a magnetic personality and was loved by many.

Dennie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Veronica (Marlene) Stephens; his children, Roxann (Maurice), Nicole, Alexa, and Kai (Denton Jr.), Rick, and Sandy; 10 grand   children, a great-grandchild, and a bonus son, Jose; his   sister Viviene, his beloved aunt Delores, his cousin Junior, and many family and friends in Jamaica and England.

Dennie served in the US Army for 20 honorable years before retiring. While serving in the Army, he and his family saw the world. He shared his beloved Jamaican culture with others, especially during the holidays. Dennie aka Coach shared his passion for soccer by coaching youth, adults, and men and women of the armed forces, winning many championships.

When he wasn’t coaching, he was tinkering under the hood of cars, and he enjoyed racing them in his youth. Denton was an amazing dancer, who loved reggae music. Many who knew him had no idea he was also a gifted artist.

Dennie was a sharp dresser who would give you the shirt off his back. Even with his health worsening, he put on a brave face and had everyone laughing.

We will all miss him dearly.
