Obituary of Ada Milligan
Mrs. Ada Milligan passed away April 2, 2025 in Tacoma, Washington. Ada was born in Norwood, Louisiana to Elsie McCray and Alfred Gipson on January 22, 1922. She moved to Tacoma, Washington right after World War II to join the love of her life Roosevelt Milligan.
Ada and Roosevelt were married on August 1, 1953. They moved to their Wright Avenue home in March of 1955. In April of 1958 they would welcome their eldest daughter Geneva to their home and in May of 1965 they would welcome their second daughter, Marjorie.
Roosevelt would transition on March 29th, 1969 and there soon after Ada would find a role in the Civil Service. She would spend 35 years on Fort Lewis using her gift as a seamstress, to tailor uniforms for soldiers.
She was a member of Miles Memorial CME Church for more than 50 years where she served on the Stewardess Board and in the Missionary Society.
Ada enjoyed cooking for her family and crocheting handmade blankets and quilts for her grandchildren. Ada also loved gardening. She loved mowing and watering her lawn and planting her bulbs in the winter. She would sit at her kitchen table every morning in the spring to view Tulips, Daffodils, Peonies and the white Calla Lillie she would plant in the winter.
Ada enjoyed traveling with her friends to church conferences in Oregon and Alaska. She would travel to Baton Rouge almost every year to visit her family. Her last visit was in April 2015 for her sister Emma’s home going celebration.
Ada had three brothers Tommie Gipson, Willie Gipson, and James Tolbert and two sisters Ida Smith and Emma Irvin all of her siblings proceeded her in death.
Ada leaves behind two daughters, Geneva and Marjorie, five grandchildren, Enchelle Rollins, Juavonne Story, Clara Johnson, George Jackson IV and Taylor Jackson, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews in the Johnson, Grant and McLean Families. She also leaves behind her roommate and caregiver Linda Chakoian.
In Baton Rouge she leaves behind one nephew Tommie Gipson Jr. and five nieces Robin Gipson, Judy Gipson, Cynthia Bienemy, Shelia Noah and Linda Tolbert- Mosely. In Anchorage, Alaska she leaves behind her nephew, Reverend Dr. Alonzo Patterson.
Visitation services for Mrs. Ada Milligan 103 year old, will be held 4pm-7pm, Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Miles Memorial CME
elebration of Life will be held 10:30 am, Friday, April 25, 2025. There will be an additional viewing 1 hour prior to funeral. Celebration of life will be held at Miles Memorial.
