Cheryl Joyce Hill was born on January 14th, 1959 in Manhattan, New York to Mac C. Wright and Willie Lee Seligna Wright; she was the second of four children. Cheryl attended McCarver Elementary, Stewart Middle School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1977. Cheryl married James Edward Hill, Jr. in 1978 and from this union gave birth to her beloved daughters, Selina Shawndanee’ Hill and Jacquina Jamie Hill.
Cheryl was a social butterfly and loved being around people. Family gatherings and social events meant the world to her. She spent her free time shopping, crocheting, gardening and “catching up on her shows.” Cheryl was known for being an amazing cook and making the best dinner rolls. She enjoyed cooking immensely and always made herself available to cook for any occasion. Cheryl was also an amazing seamstress and choir director. She directed the youth choir at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Tacoma, Washington for many years. She was also known for being the “night owl” as all of her family and friends knew she would be wide awake at 2 a.m. to chat! She most loved being around her daughters and grandchildren, often referring to them as her “best friends.”
Cheryl was preceded in death by her daughter Jacquina J. Hill, her mothers Willie Lee Seligna Wright and Prince Ella Brooks, fathers Mack C. Wright and Samuel Brooks, great-aunt Rosie P. Sheppard, her sister Tracy Hare, and best friend/cousin Linda E. Walker. She is survived by daughters Selina S. Hill and Laurie K. Brewer, son-in law James Horse Jr., her siblings Shanta Wright, Caren Owens (Tad Owens), Stacy Satterwhite, Michele Brooks, Reginald Wright (Stacey Wright), Michael Wright, Sr. (Ruth Wright), Michael Brooks and grandchildren Marlon Brewer, Montee’ce Brewer, Manaya Brewer, Amari Hill, Rimaujhi’a Greenlee, Moses Brewer, Giavanni Palmer, Imani Shivers, PrinceElla Hill-Smith, Michael Shivers Jr., and Corey Hill and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
