Sunrise December 13, 1947 ~ Sunset March 9, 2024

Diane Alston Turner was born December 13, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from Omaha South High School in 1966 and enrolled at Southern Illinois University where she joined the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. She graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1971 with a degree in Speech and Communications. Diane returned to Omaha after graduating and met Harold Turner, Jr., an Air Force Veteran who was attending the University of Nebraska-Omaha. After a short courtship the two married in January 1972 and re-located to Richmond, VA. Diane made use of her degree and took a position with the local NBC affiliate. In 1975 they welcomed their first Son Harold Turner, III and in 1976 their second Son Courtney Alston Turner.

In 1980 the Turner family moved to Seattle and Diane took a position with the Seattle Public Library. In 1981 the Turner’s bought a house in Federal Way and Diane immediately got involved in the community.  In 1998 the Turner family expanded, and they were blessed with the addition of Philip Wiseman, Jr.

Diane had two great passions in life. Gardening and being a mentor and advocate for children. She was Chief Communications Officer for the Federal Way School District until her retirement in 2013.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents Roscoe & Verdell Alston, and niece Chelena Orduna. She is survived by her Husband Harold Turner, Jr. Sons Harold (Miki) Turner, III, Courtney Alston Turner, Philip Wiseman, Jr. Daughter-in-Law Esther Turner. Sister Lt Col Cheryle Leeper, Granddaughters Bella, Carly, Madisyn, Mieko, niece Venus Figueroa and a host of cousins, great nieces & nephews.

The Turner family would like to thank Continuum Hospice for their support during Diane’s final weeks and the outpouring of love, blessings, and compassion from family, friends, former           co-workers, and her Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Sisters during this ordeal.

    Diane and I met in grade school and remained friends through Jr. High and High School. I was so happy to reconnect with her on Facebook. She has always been such a kind and wonderful friend. I know she will be missed by many including me. She so loved and was very proud of her grandchildren. My deepest sympathy to her family and all who loved her.

    From the time we met in Richmond by way of our sorority, Diane and I became fast sistah-friends. Because of this relationship, Harold became my bonus brother.
